Focused program interventions

The organization has been operating in all Regions of Ethiopia and two city administrations to benefit over 23,000 women living with HIV and their families directly and over ½ of the total population of Ethiopia through different intervention mechanisms paved by different project

HIV Care and Treatment (HCT)

HIV care and treatment is also the key focus area of NNPWE. NNPWE will encourage its members and the community to test for HIV and start ART. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the use of HIV medicines to treat HIV infection. People on ART take a combination of HIV medicines (called an HIV treatment regimen) every day. … HIV medicines prevent HIV from multiplying (making copies of itself), which reduces the amount of HIV in the body (also called the viral load) and lead a positive life and minimizes the transmission of the virus to others

Preventing the Transmission of Mother to Children Care and Treatment (PMTCT)

Preventing the transmission of HIV virus from mother to their infants is a key priority area. NNPWE has collaboratively working with government sector in elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV during pregnancy, delivery and breast feeding. It is understood that NNPWE is National Network of HIV Positive Women Ethiopians, which is concerned on advocacy for preventing of HIV/AIDS during pregnancy and after so as to create HIV free generation

Women Empowerment

The goals of the Women’s Empowerment were to build connections among HIV positive women as a source of support and empowerment and to promote self-care in health and wellbeing in HIV positive women through information. The Women’s Empowerment program was developed as a community-based care intervention for women living with HIV.

Advocacy and Gender Based Violence

Among marginalized populations, like HIV positive women, a high prevalence of violence is linked with higher rates of HIV infection. The stigma and discrimination associated with HIV as well as high levels of gender-based violence are preventing from making progress against the epidemic. Gender-based violence is strongly associated with harmful gender norms and stereotypes. NNPWE striving to fight the gender in balance and in equality through organizing awareness creation events, engaged in policy dialogues and public mobilization

Income Generating Activity

Women’s economic vulnerability and dependence on men increases their vulnerability to HIV by constraining their ability to negotiate the conditions, including sexual abstinence, condom use and multiple partnerships, which shape their risk of infection. In the face of escalating infection rates among women, and particularly young women, many have pointed to the potential importance of economic empowerment strategies for HIV prevention responses. Global evidence suggests that the relationship between poverty and HIV risk is complex, and that poverty on its own cannot be viewed simplistically as a driver of the HIV epidemic.
