Job purpose

The Project Officer will be expected to lead the AHF Adolescent and Youth PLHIV project activities at the project sites by working closely with the Women PLHIV associations and the program Manager. In collaboration with the M&E team of the project, she/he will be engaged in improving project delivery quality service delivery, operational research and quality improvement interventions related to Adolescent and Youth PLHIVs and Gender activities of the project.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, Lead and monitor the day to day activity of the AHF Adolescent and Youth PLHIV project.
  • Conduct training and facilitate the youth dialogue session at the target groups in the project area
  • Prepare and distribute BCC/ICC materials for the target groups and the community as a whole.
  • Identify the root problems of stigma through conducting qualitative research
  • Supervise the program activities including in the design, development, and implementation of technical guidance.
  • Make use of job aids/guiding materials in improving awareness of Adolescent and Youth PLHIV;
  • Follow up and capture the progress of Adolescent and Youth PLHIV in HIV care and adherence follow up.
  • Adopt/Develop tools for proper identification of Adolescent and Youth PLHIV interventions tailored to PLHIV in need of. 
  • Conduct regular monitoring visits to assess the progress of Adolescent and Youth intervention and ensure appropriate actions are taken timely.
  • Prepare and transmit radio spots for increasing the awareness level of the large community
  • Facilitate the establishment/strengthening of Youth centers so as to provide youth-friendly service.
  • Ensure synergy or reduce duplication of effort by different programs on Adolescent and Youth PLHIV interventions through enhancing linkages between similar projects and promoting coordination platforms.
  • Supervise demonstration interventions of AHF project and document lessons learned.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in sociology, psychology, nursing, public health, development or related field of study.
  • Knowledge: HIV prevention, care, and treatment, gender-based violence, stigma and discrimination, youth development.
  • The proven skill of communication,
  • Experience: 2 years’ and above relevant experience
  • Solid knowledge and experience on innovative HIV prevention strategies,
  • Thorough understanding of HIV program marketing, media utilization for advocacy and lobbying,
  • Flexible, proactive and able to organize work independently as well as work in a team facilitation skills,
  • Mature, confident, articulate, calm, appreciative, adaptable and friendly personalities,
  • Result-oriented moderate and balanced views, tact and discretion in interactions with others.
  • Willing and able to take initiatives
  • Strong commitment to accepted ethical and moral principles and standards;
    Have the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic; Excellent written and oral communication;
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks,
  • Proficiency in word-processing and spreadsheets.

  • Ability to prioritize work according to importance and deadline while meeting conflicting work demands
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and support others in their work.
